Common Types of HPB Surgeries

Liver Resection

Pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple Procedure)

Gallbladder Surgery (Cholecystectomy)

Total Gastrectomy This surgery involves complete removal of the stomach, typically performed for advanced stomach cancer. It may include lymph node dissection and reconstruction of the digestive tract.

Breast cancer surgery is one of the most common treatments for breast cancer. The goal of surgery is to remove the cancerous tissue and prevent it from spreading.

Total Gastrectomy

This surgery involves complete removal of the stomach, typically performed for advanced stomach cancer. It may include lymph node dissection and reconstruction of the digestive tract.

Distal Gastrectomy

In cases of localized tumors in the lower part of the stomach, a distal gastrectomy removes the affected region while preserving part of the stomach for better digestion and quality of life.

Surgery for Small Bowel Tumors

Small bowel tumors are rare but serious. Dr. Shafiq performs careful surgical resections with optimal oncological margins to ensure safe removal.

Esophagectomy (Transhiatal & 3-Stage Procedure)

For esophageal cancer, Dr. Ahsan offers both transhiatal and three-stage esophagectomy approaches. These complex procedures involve removal of the esophagus and reconstruction using the stomach or intestine.

Breast Conservation Surgery (BCS / Lumpectomy)

Also known as a lumpectomy, BCS removes only the tumor and a margin of healthy tissue, preserving most of the breast. It is ideal for early-stage breast cancer and is typically followed by radiation therapy. This approach offers excellent cosmetic results with equivalent survival outcomes to mastectomy in suitable cases.

Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM)

In MRM, the entire breast is removed along with axillary (underarm) lymph nodes, while preserving the chest muscles. This procedure is commonly performed for more advanced breast cancer or when breast conservation is not feasible. Dr. Ahsan ensures oncological safety while minimizing postoperative complications and improving cosmetic outcomes through reconstruction options when desired.
